Flumotion, a leading company in streaming technology, and CEO / Co-Founder Jean-Noël Saunier have been awarded in two categories by industry leading publication, Streaming Media Magazine. Jean-Noël was selected for the Streaming Media Dream Team 2010, an annual list that acknowledges the most influential and pioneering personalities in the world of online video. Last year’s winners included Mark Zaleski, CEO of Dailymotion, Daniel Ek, CEO and Co-founder of Spotify and John Gisby of Channel 4. This important recognition not only highlights Jean-Noël’s professional achievements, but his commitment to sharing knowledge with others via public forums for the future development of online video.
Flumotion Streaming Technology named one of the 10 most influential
The second recognition is Streaming Media’s annual Editor’s Pick, a selection of the 10 most influential streaming services and products. Flumotion’s Streaming Technology joins the likes of last year’s winners – Hulu, BBC iPlayer, Adobe Creative Suite and VP8 codec of On2 Technologies, a company acquired by Google in August 2009. Streaming Media Editor, Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen commented, “The winners indicate not only the technological advances that were made over the past 12 months or so, but also the growth of online video in the mainstream.” This win compliments Flumotion’s success last October at the Streaming Media European Readers’ Choice Awards in London, winning in the category of ‘Best Streaming Innovation’ for simplifying access to streaming.
Flumotion’s success factor – A new business model for streaming
“The exponential increase in consumption of high-definition content requires the participation of ISPs (Internet service providers) and telcos in the streaming value chain. Only if all stakeholders work together, can a sustainable business model be created and provide a global audience with an innovative multimedia experience,” says Jean-Noël Saunier. Flumotion’s objective is to provide solutions that are in line with their clients’ digital strategies and with a clear focus on return on investment. This has resulted in 90% of the top broadcasters in Spain using the company’s technology and services. Last year the Flumotion Streaming Platform handled the most media traffic in Spain, serving over 1 billion user sessions.
Thanks to strategic partnerships with world leading telcos, Flumotion Streaming Services are available globally. As Flumotion’s multi-format technology drastically reduces infrastructure costs, providers such as NTT Europe and Telefónica deploy Flumotion’s innovative technology on their networks. “As more companies include online video in their digital strategies, there will also be an increase in new providers offering CDN (Content Delivery Network) services”, explains Flumotion CEO Jean-Noël Saunier. “Other trends include Connect TV bringing content back to TV screens, which results in an exponential growth of audio and video consumption. We also see an increasing number of content providers, who actually manage to make profit with their online multimedia – this is great news for the world of online video”, adds Saunier.
Flumotion Streaming Technology among the world’s best
The awarded Flumotion Streaming Software is the core of Flumotion’s multi-format technology and Streaming Platform. Companies have the choice to buy the self-hosted software as a product in the e-Store or to contract Flumotion Streaming as a service. Clients such as Cuatro, Antena3 and Nestlé trust in the Flumotion Streaming Platform and WebTV service for the effective management, delivery and monetisation of their content.
“Our technology makes it easier for publishers to stream their content to multiple devices such as the iPhone/iPad and offer all leading formats such as Flash, Silverlight and MP4. Flumotion is currently at the forefront in offering HTML5 encoding and delivery of live and on demand.” explains Saunier. He also adds, “We are working on Smart Play Detection, a function that automatically detects the end user’s device and selects the appropriate format to provide an optimised viewing experience. Flumotion also offers customisable WebTVs and players that allow for effective content monetisation, while offering a groundbreaking user experience adapted to the needs of the target audience.”
